If you are interested in
adopting or fostering any of the German
Shorthaired Pointers on our Dogs for Adoption page, please contact the
rescue personnel via our Contact Us page. Please make sure to leave
your name, phone number, geographical location,
and reason for contacting us. If you are looking
to contact GSP Rescue personnel in other states,
send us a message and we'll try and put you in
contact with the right people. If you are
interested in adoption, please make sure to fill
out our Online
Adoption Application to get the process
started.
Our dogs are boarded at foster homes and kennels
across southeastern Wisconsin and Northern
Illinois. All the WI dogs listed on our adoption
page have been evaluated and are ready for
immediate adoption. We prefer you come and see
all of our dogs in person to see which dog might
be right for you. We do not ship dogs across the
country. There are other GSP rescue
organizations we can put you in contact with if
you are not close to us.
All are wonderful pets needing kind and loving
homes. If you have any questions about our GSP
Rescue program, please email us for more
information. Both will be happy to speak with
you regarding each of the dogs up for adoption,
the procedure for adoption, and about German
Shorthaired Pointers in general.
Six Steps
to Adopt
If you are truly interested in
adopting a German Shorthaired Pointer through
our program, there are six steps involved. Each
step is carefully reviewed by adoption personal
to make sure the placement is best for you and
the dog.
Step One: Adoption Application Submission
You can submit an adoption application to us
using our Online
Adoption Application, or you can download
our Adoption Contract
in PDF Format and (regular) mail it to us.
The address to send it is on the form, and
please send us an email
stating you have mailed us a printed adoption
form.
Step Two: Application Review
Next your application is carefully reviewed to
see if a German Shorthaired Pointer is best for
you. Your vet and other references are checked,
as is your general living situation. If we feel
your situation would make a good home for a
Shorthair, we move on to the next step.
Step Three: Email/Phone Interview
This step allows us to hear why you want to
adopt through our program in your own words.
During this process we'll go over the first two
steps, plus ask (and answer) any additional
questions. Rescue personal will also use this
time to let you know what dogs we have
available, who we think may be best for your
situation, and other necessary information
needed to adopt one of our charges.
Step Four: Home Visit
This next step is to see where the adopted pet
would live. Things such as the condition of your
yard and house will be reviewed, as well as your
home's location. A fenced yard here always
helps, as well as room for the dog to move
about. Remember that German Shorthaired Pointers
are an energetic breed and we wish to make sure
they're not confined where they cannot exercise,
or otherwise placed in an unsuitable situation.
Step Five: Visit With Dog
If all previous steps are meet favorably with
rescue personal, the next step is meeting the
dog or dogs you may be interested in adopting.
This is typically done where the dog is being
fostered or other neutral location, though it
can also be at your residence. This gives the
potential adopter a chance to meet the dog and
speak at length with rescue personal. If you
already have existing dogs (or cats), this step
is used to evaluate if they will get along
favorably.
Step Six: Adoption
If all goes well, and both parties are happy, a
GSP under our care can go to his or her new
forever home after the adopter signs our
official adoption contract. Should the adoption
not work out, the dog is returned to the rescue.
